July 10, 2016 – JGC Government Relations

The California Legislature recently completed its work and went on summer break for the month of July.  June was a very busy month with each legislative house passing its respective bills to the other house, the passage of the California Budget, and policy committees finishing their review of legislation.  August will also be busy with the appropriations committees reviewing bills and their fiscal impacts, and the Legislature finishing its work and ending for the year on August 31st.  The Governor will have until September 30th to sign or veto bills passed by the Legislature.

In terms of specific issues important to CSMA, we are currently watching AB 1751 by Assembly Member Low.  This is a measure sponsored by the California Pawn Brokers Association, a measure relating to the Department of Justice Electronic Reporting System.  One concern will be bills gutted and amended during the final weeks of the legislative process in August.  We will be reviewing all amendments to ensure that language isn’t inserted into a bill that will impact CSMA.
